St. John Vianney
Feast Day: August 4
Kicking a soccer ball can be hard. Multiplying
numbers can be hard. Playing the violin can be hard. And learning the
Latin language can be hard too! It surely was hard for John Vianney.
But John wanted to be a priest. So he had to learn Latin. He studied and
studied, but Latin was too hard for him. Then another priest helped him.
So John did become a priest.
John lived in France. As a child, he watched over his father’s sheep.
As a priest, he watched over the people in his parish. He helped each
of them.
With two wonderful women, John started a school and home for children
who had no families. He spent many hours listening to people confess their
sins. He brought God’s mercy to them.
People from far away came to John for advice. He listened carefully and
then helped them solve their problems. John could not learn Latin. But
he could show people God’s love in action!
