Over the centuries, people have used many symbols to remind them of Jesus. Sometimes, the symbols were used by Christians in place of a picture of Jesus himself. If the rulers learned that people believed in Jesus, the Christians would be hurt or killed. The symbol was a safe secret among believers. In other times, artists used symbols for Jesus in their paintings and sculptures. Their artwork is displayed all over the world.
