Blessed
Luigi Beltrame Quattrocchi (1880-1951) and Blessed Maria Corsini (1884-1965)
Luigi Beltrame Quattrocchi was born
in1880 in Italy. He went to school to become a lawyer. By the time he
retired, he was the attorney general of Italy. He was friends with many
political leaders. After World War II he worked to rebuild Italy.
Maria Corsini was born in 1884 in Italy into a noble family. Because of
her family status and home in Florence, Maria had many educational and
cultural experiences. Maria became a professor. She wrote about educational
issues. She loved music. She also found time to volunteer in a number
of Catholic and social organizations like the Red Cross.
The couple married November 25, 1905 in Rome. They had four children.
As a family, they started scout groups for children who lived in the poor
neighborhoods in Rome. Three of the couple’s four children entered
religious life.
On October 21, 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified Luigi and Maria Beltrame
Quattrocchi together as a married couple. The Pope explained that Luigi
and Maria “lived an ordinary life in an extraordinary way. Among
the joys and concerns of a normal family life, they had an extraordinarily
rich spiritual life.”
Luigi and Maria represent a model of married love and religious commitment.
Their inspiring example is a source of encouragement for all married couples.
